A PUP (Potentially Unwanted Program), is a software which gets downloaded automatically while downloading a specific software or application. It may be unsuitable for the user’s PC. It comes bundled with some other freeware software. It displays pop-up ads or installs a toolbar in the default browser changing the search engine or homepage. It includes adware, spyware, scareware, and browser hijacker. Once it gets downloaded and installed into the system, it starts creating a problem for the user by interrupting the functioning of the PC, same as in the case of malware.

While downloading an application or program from the Internet, the user usually neglects to read the program’s agreement and fails to understand what they are exactly downloading. As the users are not familiar of these additional freeware, it results PUPs to enter into the computer system with the legitimate applications.

However, PUPs are deleterious for the user’s computer system. Once downloaded, it slows down the performance of the user’s PC by running various background processes.

How to Remove PUPs (Potentially Unwanted Programs) Manually?

  1. Click the start menu button and go to the control panel
  2. Click Uninstall a program/Add and remove a program
  3. It will display a list of installed programs
  4. Search in there for Potentially Unwanted Program
  5. Once the PUP is located, select them and click Uninstall button
